Ellen (Lin) Knapp is Chief Knowledge Officer for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). This global leadership role encompasses all aspects of the firm's knowledge management activity, both internally and externally. As CKO, Ms. Knapp is responsible for identifying and leveraging knowledge assets that will differentiate the firm, assuring that all PwC partners and staff have access to just-in-time knowledge in their client service activities, and establishing new forms of intellectual capital distribution between the firm and its clients - this includes responsibility for the firms global intranet, and extranet strategy. One of the country's primary authorities on the strategic use of both intellectual capital and technology, Knapp's role is to create competitive advantage and catalyze organizational change in PricewaterhouseCoopers through the development and application of innovative technology and knowledge based products and services.

PricewaterhouseCoopers operates in 867 offices in 152 countries with a 1997 revenue of 15 billion. Previously, Ms. Knapp was Vice Chairman and Chief Knowledge Officer of Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P., a member of the firm's Management Committee and Board of Partners. This role encompassed all aspects of the firm's technology, knowledge management and marketing and communications functions. She was a Vice Chairman of Coopers & Lybrand from 1992 to 1998 and, in addition served as Chairman of the firm's International Technology Management Group and the International Knowledge Management Group. Coopers & Lybrand merged with Price Waterhouse in July, 1998 to form PricewaterhouseCoopers.
